Betty and Dave
Let us introduce ourselves.
Family Motor Coach Association
We started our motorhome adventure in 2000. We had been working in Silicon Valley for many years, Dave as a technician for a laser company and I as a software developer for Tandem Computers. We had been looking for a house to buy but could not find anything we wanted to live in that we could afford. We went to a large RV show and liked what we saw. We realized that we could afford a motorhome. We bought one from a dealer in Oregon. We took possession of our motorhome in Junction City, OR with plans to bring it back to CA and live in and continue working in Silicon Valley. Unfortunately, before we could Dave was injured on the job and I was laid off when the dot com bubble burst. Dave had shoulder surgery and lived in OR in the coach while he did rehab. I cleared out the house we had been renting and joined him in the motorhome in OR in 2001.
We lived in the coach in a small RV Park near Corvallis, OR. I continued to do software development, but
as an independent consultant. The web development area that I worked in was constantly changing so there was
always something (many things) new to learn. I even had our motorhome changed to accommodate my work area.
This nice, big desk was created by Shaun Davis of Davis Cabinets. The desk still houses a desktop computer,
laptop, scanner, printer, and files. A dragon made by "Wee Did Thizz" of Harrisburg, OR, watches
over us from atop the printer.
We enjoyed our time in OR a lot. Had good friends and did lots of hiking and photography. Unfortunately, medical insurance costs continued to go up and I was not working full-time and did not have insurance as consultant. So at the end of 2005 Dave accepted a position as customer technical support for a laser company in Silicon Valley, CA and we left OR to return to CA. We eventually located a long-term RV park with space for our motorhome and had the coach driven down to CA. Dave was already working full-time and I haven't driven the rig through the mountains in the winter weather. We also have a Saab which can't be towed four down so I followed the coach down in the Saab. I spent most of January on the phone trying to get our land line, DSL, and cell phones installed or switched to CA numbers. What a time consuming process.
We enjoy hiking on the weekends and especially are enjoying the arts and crafts festivals that are in Silicon Valley. We still live in our motorhome. Dave is still working at the laser company. I am not working and the rest is Her Story.
